2025 Fabco Challenge featuring Kaffe Fassett

The Fabco Challenge featuring Kaffe Fassett is an exciting competition organized by Fabco for 2025. This event aims to inspire creativity, encourage new crafters to explore quilting, and foster communityengagement through local craft stores.

Purpose and Intent

Encourage people from various crafts to explore quilting.

Attract new customers to local craft stores.

Promote creativity and artistic expression.

Showcase the versatility of Kaffe Fassett's designs.

Foster a sense of community among crafters.

Provide a platform for both experienced and novice artists.

Competition time line Starts: 9am 11 April 2025 Closes: 3pm 20th August 2025

Prizes:

National winners will be judged at the Houston Quilt Market in 2025:

Grand Prize Winner :Mystery Kaffe Fassett fabric bundle (RV $500).

Second Place: Mystery Kaffe Fassett fabric bundle (retail value $250).

Third Place: Mystery KaffeFassett fabric bundle (retail value $150).

Store Requirements and Responsibilities

  • Request allocated fabric gift pouches from Fabco from 31st March. Fabco will start sending competition fabric from 8th April 2025. Packets can be given out from 9am 11th April. Additional kits can be requested until the end of June 2025 if needed
  • Distribute fabric pieces to customers who make a minimum $40 in-store purchase
  • Maintain a detailed record of all participants, including theirnames and contact information.
  • Keep track of the number of fabric pieces distributed.
  • Arrange for the return of non-winning entries to participants.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of all entries to prevent damage
  • Actively promote the competition in-store through displays, signage, and staff engagement.
  • Consider hosting workshops or events related to the challenge to generate interest. You can have as many sub categories as you like.
  • Create and manage additional local categories and prizes to encourage broader participation
  • All competition entries need to be handed into the participating store by 3pm Wednesday 20th August
  • Organize and conduct your own local judging. You can have as many
    sub categories as you like. Ensure that judging is fair, unbiased and
    open. All judging needs to have a judging card for reasons of winning.
  • Select one winning entry to represent the store in the national competition. This will be in the open section and must be under the 14”x14” size.
  • Conduct local judging in August 2025 between 21st and 31st August. Select one winning entry to be sent to Fabco. Give out your store prizes for other categories. Fabco will provide 1 prize per participating store. Please announce your store winners on social
  • Send the winning entry to Fabco NZ to be received by September 20,2025. Ensure the winning piece is properly packaged for safe transit.
  • Cover the shipping expenses for sending the winning entry.
  • Inform participants about local submission deadlines and judging schedules. Provide clear instructions to participants regarding entry requirements.
  • Act as a liaison between Fabco NZ and local participants for any queries or concerns.
  • Brief staff members about the competition details and rules.
  • Encourage staff participation in a separate competition to be judged by Fabco staff. Items to be sent to Fabco for judging by Fabco staff.
  • Photograph local entries for store records and potential promotional use. Obtain necessary permissions from participants for using their work in promotions.
  • Collect and provide feedback to Fabco NZ about the challenge process and participant experiences.

Participant Rules and Guidelines

Eligibility

  • Open to all ages, residing in New Zealand with participants making a minimum $40 purchase at a participating store to receive the competition fabric.
  • Each store will have an open Category and other categories of theirchoice.
  • Each participant will receive a small piece of Kaffe Fassett's Stone Flower fabric, featuring one Stone Flower design. The vase from the fabric design must be included in the final piece and must be easily recognizable.

Project Guidelines

  • Create a finished piece that is no larger than 14" x 14". Entries exceeding this size will not qualify for the national competition.
  • Use any creative art form or technique, such as quilting, painting, embroidery, collage, crochet, felting or mixed media.
  • Ensure your design is original and not based on commercial patterns.
  • Include your name clearly on the back of your competition piece so it can be returned to you.

Prizes

Each store will hold their own judging with 1 overall winner per store. This winning piece will then be judged at the Fabco competition in Houston 2025.

National winners will be judged at the Houston Quilt Market in 2025:

  • Grand Prize Winner: Mystery Kaffe Fasset fabric bundle (retail value $500).
  • Second Place: Mystery Kaffe Fasset fabric bundle (retail value $250).
  • Third Place: Mystery Kaffe Fasset fabric bundle (retail value $150).

Submission Rules

  • Submit your entry to your local participating store by 3pm Wednesday 20th August 2025. Your store will provide the exact submission deadline and judging schedule. This will be between 21st and 31 August 2025.
  • Winning entries from each store must be received by Fabco NZ by September 20, 2025, at the store's expense.
  • Provide a return address for your entry to ensure it can be returned after judging.

Return of Entries

  • Winning pieces will be returned to participants by their local store after judging at the Houston Quilt Market Fabco by the end of November 2025.

Fine Print Stuff

  • Fabco is not liable for loss or damage to competition pieces during transit or travel. Fabco reserves the right to photograph and use winning entries to promote Fabco, Kaffe Fassett, Free Spirit, and future challenges.
  • Competition entries may be used for advertising purposes with recognition given to the artist, store, Kaffe Fassett, and Fabco.
